Creativity is my passion. I have come to realize this after working in the ever-changing profession of journalism. As a media professional with more than 10 years of experience in writing, designing and gathering information, I am a skilled, valuable employee to any organization. I have created numerous videos, graphics, documents and presentations for all individuals to share with audiences throughout the state. I have gained additional communications skills as a journalist.
My reporting career began shortly after graduating from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia. I worked as a newspaper reporter at the McDuffie Progress, a bi-weekly publication in Thomson, Georgia. I covered a variety of stories in the two-person newsroom. I wrote about local crime, covered Board of Education and City Council meetings and I spent my Friday nights covering high school football. I also found myself designing an entire newspaper publication.
Shortly thereafter, I began working as an associate producer for 13 WMAZ, a CBS news affiliate in Macon. While there, I learned a lot about working under pressure. I worked with a team of reporters, news anchors and other production staff to pull together noon newscasts.After leaving Macon, I worked again as newspaper reporter in my hometown of Covington at The Covington News.
I wrote numerous articles concerning students, parents and teachers within the Newton County School System and I, again, covered local city council and county commissioner meetings, reporting on the latest politics. Outside of the newsroom, I had the opportunity to teach newspaper design at one of the local high schools. This opportunity sparked the idea of bringing in new interns to our newsroom. I loved serving as a mentor to high school students who were looking to pursue journalism further in college.
Through various other roles, I have gained the skillset of working with the media and how to work with a team of creatives. I love this work, and I believe I would be a great addition to any team.
